March was a month of diverse listening for me, as I dove into a mix of genres ranging from light-hearted fun to thrilling suspense, and even historical fiction that tugged at my heart. Here’s a look at the audiobooks I listened to this month and my thoughts on each.
The 3 Lives of Cate Kay – 3 Stars
I started March with The 3 Lives of Cate Kay, and it turned out to be a fun listen. While not mind-blowing or life-changing, the story was intriguing enough to keep me hooked. Cate Kay is a character you can’t help but root for as she navigates her own complex life, and the twists and turns kept me interested. It wasn’t the kind of book that left me thinking about it long after I finished, but it was an enjoyable way to pass the time. I gave it 3 stars because it was entertaining, but not quite as impactful as I hoped.
In Five Years – 3 Stars
Next up was In Five Years, which turned out to be a surprise. At first, I wasn’t entirely sure where the story was going, but by the time I finished, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The plot takes a twist I didn’t see coming, and it was interesting to see the characters deal with unexpected changes in their lives. It was an easy, quick listen, and while it wasn’t the most emotionally impactful book I’ve ever read, I was engaged enough to finish it fast. I ended up giving it 3 stars, as it wasn’t revolutionary, but it definitely kept me interested.
Society of Lies – 3.5 Stars
I typically don’t gravitate towards suspenseful thrillers, but Society of Lies caught my attention with its unique premise of secret societies at Ivy League colleges. The intrigue of hidden societies and college secrets is what kept me going through the book. Even though it wasn’t my usual cup of tea, I found myself hooked on the mystery and suspense, and it had me constantly wanting to know more. It was definitely an unexpected find, and though it wasn’t perfect, I gave it 3.5 stars because it really kept me engaged and entertained.
All the Broken Places – 4 Stars
Finally, my favorite audiobook of the month was All the Broken Places by John Boyne. As a big fan of WWII historical fiction, this book was a refreshing and deeply moving take on the genre. Told from a viewpoint I’d never imagined before, the story offers a unique perspective on the aftermath of war and the lasting effects on those who lived through it. The emotional depth, along with a few surprises along the way, made this an incredibly powerful read. I was hooked from start to finish, and when it ended, I actually felt a little sad because I didn’t want to leave the world Boyne had created. I gave it 4 stars because it was a beautiful and poignant story that resonated with me long after I finished.
Final Thoughts
March was a month of unexpected finds and enjoyable stories. From the fun and light-hearted moments of The 3 Lives of Cate Kay to the suspenseful intrigue of Society of Lies and the emotional depth of All the Broken Places, I found myself diving into a mix of genres that kept me entertained and engaged.
If you’re looking for a well-rounded list of audiobooks to add to your collection, these four are definitely worth checking out. Each offered something different, and while not all of them were instant favorites, they all brought something enjoyable to the table. Can’t wait to see what audiobooks I dive into next month!
